Autumn Lights on the Arno (2016) is an immersive sound installation conceived and created by the acclaimed French composer for the urban environment of the Le Murate Complex on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Florence flood. This sound portrait of the river develops along two separate registers that give life to the soundscape of the Arno: an acoustic dimension, figurative and realistic, in which faraway voices and chirping birds from the river banks emerge from the continuous and steady white noise of the city; and an acousmatic dimension, a poised image, discreet, and devoted to the chant of water. This work stemmed from a field recording workshop produced in partnership with Tempo Reale that involved young local sound artists.

In 2016, on the occasion of the fiftieth commemoration of the flood of the Arno River, the RIVA Project focused on the city of Florence to raise awareness on good practices and attitudes toward the territory and the environment through art. Besides the participation of three internationally acclaimed photographers – Jay Wolke, Arno Rafael Minkkinen, and Massimo Vitali – under the curatorship of Studio Marangoni, the project enjoyed the contribution of several artists, including Bernard Fort with Tempo Reale, Radio Papesse, Studio ++, Francesco Pellegrino, Fotoromanzo Italiano, who were commissioned original artistic creations: site-specific installations along the banks of the river, workshops, exhibitions and conferences along the Arno and at MAD Murate Art District. Bernard Fort Co-fondatore e responsabile del GMVL (Groupe Musiques Vivantes de Lyon) insegna composizione acusmatica alla Scuola Nazionale di Musica di Villeurbanne e dedica il resto del suo tempo alla composizione e all’ornitologia. Le sue opere musicali sono dedicate interamente al genere acusmatico per i concerti in situazioni plein air, per la danza e per il giovane pubblico. Nel suo lavoro si è sempre interessato alle zone di confine tra astrazione e raffigurazione, naturale e culturale. La sua ricerca si focalizza principalmente sui modi di rappresentazione della musica elettroacustica

Progetto RIVA
Il paesaggio sonoro: una rielaborazione in chiave artistica del paesaggio sonoro naturale del fiume Arno. Dopo il workshop Field Recording Arno tenuto nel 2016 per giovani artisti e musicisti selezionati tramite open call, e un incontro sulle fasi creative del paesaggio sonoro, il compositore Bernard Fort ha proposto al pubblico, nello stesso anno, un’installazione sonora immersiva pensata per l’ambiente urbano delle Murate e per la sala emeroteca de MAD Murate Art District. Un ritratto del fiume che è stato realizzato così su due diversi registri: l’immagine acustica, figurativa e realistica, e l’immagine composta o immagine acusmatica. L’immagine acustica, rappresentazione di una situazione naturale all’aperto, è stata proposta all’interno dell’emeroteca. Qui l’interesse si è concentrato sulla restituzione dello spazio e sulla sua profondità di campo dentro ad un grande piano fisso.
